Welcome to Yellow!

Yellow Class is home to the oldest children of Drake's Primary School - Year 6.  

Yellow Class is taught by Mrs Tribble.

We have started our first units of learning in both Maths and Literacy this week and the children have been working really hard.

 

In Literacy we have been looking at writing instructions and the key features which are needed to ensure they are easy to follow.  The children's homework this week will give them a further opportunity to practice this before we begin writing instructions for how to 'Mummify a Pharaoh' next week!

 

In Maths we have been working with large numbers; reading, writing and rounding.  We have also looked at just how useful our times tables can be when solving a range of mental calculations!  I am really pleased to see that the children are celebrating their mistakes and using them as tools to strengthen their learning - a great attitude to have!

We visited Exmouth Community College to listen to author Chris Bradford talk about his books. He is a method writer, which means he researches in person for each of his books: when he was writing about young samurai, he trained in the art of samurai; when he was writing about bodyguards, he trained as a bodyguard.
