Week ending 17/7/11
The children have enjoyed exploring the area of measuring using non standard measures and making comparisons using the correct mathematical terms. We have written about our favourite toys in literacy and have enjoyed looking at photos of the each other as babies. The children had great fun on Friday with the obstacle course - check out the photos!
We will be looking at measurement through weight and mass next week. The children will continue their work with the book Peter's Chair and we will be extending our writing to sequences of sentences. The children will be beginning to work on the Christmas songs for our play so expect lots of singing at home!
Week ending 10/11/17
We enjoyed a walk around the village this week to look at trees. The children identified trees that stay green and those that lose their leaves in winter. We identified some trees by looking carefully at the leaves and took them back to school to do some leaf prints. The children have started to bring in pictures of themselves as babies which have provided us with many oos and ahs! They have been writing sentences about their families. In numeracy we have finished our sequence of work on geometric reasoning and will be started a new sequence next week on number sense.
We are going to be writing about ourselves; as babies and about our favourite baby toy. In Numeracy we are starting a sequence on Number Sense which will include work on measurement. It is Children in need Day next Friday so remember to dress up.
Week ending 3/11/17
The children visited Bicton as part of our study of plants,trees and seasons. We created some pictures out of autumn treasures. These will be on the website next week!
We have also be looking at 2d and 3d shape in numeracy. In literacy we have been focussing on our sentence toolkit; what you need to put in a sentence.
We are going to continue our work on trees, plants and seasons with a walk around our village on Wednesday afternoon. We are also starting our new text in literacy about Peter's Chair. The children will need a photo of themselves as a baby and a photo of an item that they were fond of as a young child.
Week ending 13/10/17
The children have enjoyed our new text this week and have been practising whistling! They have been looking at sentence writing and what needs to be in a sentence. In numeracy we have been looking at doubles and number sentences. In topic we have performed an experiment looking at absorbent and non absorbent materials.
This is the last week before half term. The children will be working on a final piece of writing that will showcase all they have learnt over the half term. In numeracy we will continue to look at addititive reasoning. In topic we are going to continue with some experiments and recording what we find.
Week ending 6/10/17
This week Red Class have enjoyed our invention morning with parents and relations. They made some fabulous dragon traps to finish off our work on Tell Me a Dragon. We have been looking at additive reasoning in maths and have begun writing number sentences. In topic we have looked at how different materials are useful for different purposes.
We will start our sequence of work based on the text Whistle for Willie in earnest. The children will be writing instructions on how to do something they find hard as part of our work on Growth Mindsets.
Week Ending 29/9/17
The children have been finishing their unit of work on 'Tell me a Dragon'. They are learning how to construct a sentence using end punctuation and verbs. We have begun to make a castle and a life size dragon for the role play area. In numeracy we have been looking at numbers that are greater than or less than a given number. We have been learning how to write number sentences using the greater than and less than signs.
We are looking forward to our invention day on Thursday morning. The children will be designing and making dragon traps with their adult helpers.
In numeracy we will be starting a new theme around additive reasoning . In literacy we will reading the book ' Whistle for Willie'. This will linked to growth mindset and encouraging the children to persevere with things they find hard.
Week ending 22.9.17
The children were very excited to find our dragon egg had hatched this week; leaving feathers and mess behind! On Friday we headed out on a hunt to see if we could find where the baby dragon was. The children enjoyed planning for this hunt by drawing maps, making lists and painting dragons.
In numeracy the children have been learning number bonds and how we can use them in our number work.
In topic work we are learning all about different materials, their names and properties. We will use this knowledge on our invention day on the 5th October.
We will be continuing with our test " Tell me a Dragon". The children will get a chance to design and describe their own dragons. We are going to make a life size dragon to have in the classroom using various art skills.
In Numeracy we will be finishing our number sense sequence.
Week ending 15/9/17
The children have enjoyed starting our work on our text " Tell me a dragon." They were very excited to find a dragon's egg this morning in our class garden. We are hoping that it might hatch and we will have our own baby dragon to care for! The children have designed and described their own dragon's eggs.
In Numeracy we have been working on basic number sense; exploring numicon and pattern in number.
In topic we have started learning about different materials. The children have already used this knowledge to build some dragon traps of their own.
On Wednesday we will be going for our first walk of the year around the village. If you are around to help please come and let us know . It will be an exciting journey, but I can't tell you more as the children are yet to find out the purpose of our outing!!
Week ending 9/9/17:
The children have settled really well into red class this week. Our new starters in both reception and year one have quickly become part of the class and school. We have been looking at the idea of growth mindset with the children;encouraging them to persevere and to keep on trying. This will be a continual, underlying focus as we move forward through the term.
We will be starting our work on the book " Tell Me a Dragon." The children are very excited about this and can't wait to begin. We will be creating some dragon eggs and making individual designs. In Number we will be assessing the children's knowledge and using this to move forward in our use of basic number skills.
