Autumn Term 2018
Our school topic this term is
Who am I ?
The children have been working consistently hard this term and we are all so proud of the progress they are making. Many visitors to the class comment on what a lovely class they are and how they have such a positive attitude towards their learning! They have enjoyed working on our literacy sequence tackling the art of creating a question and next week will be creating their own animal based on the book ' I don't want to be a frog.' We will be painting our characters and compiling text for a class book. In numeracy we have finished our sequence on geometric reasoning and start a new number sense unit of work on Monday. The children will have a focus of measurement to include length, capacity and mass/weight. We are also beginning the preparations for our school Christmas production. We are continuing with the tradition of the year 2 and 3 children taking the lead for this play with R and year 1 having parts appropriate for their confidence and age to support them. Parts will be allocated over the next week and we will let you know so you can rehearse any lines with your child at home.
I think winter has finally arrived here in East Budleigh. We do have some spare coats for the children to borrow, but please make sure they have a coat in school each day as we do like to get them out to play at some point each day. The children have enjoyed starting the literacy sequence of 'I don't want to be a frog.' They are learning about questions, statements, commands and exclamations depending on their year group. In numeracy we are working on 2d and 3d shape and are going to be exploring symmetry next week. We enjoyed our first session with our PE experts on Wednesday. Please make sure we have a full PE kit and suitable shoes for outdoor PE . Jogging bottoms are useful as the weather gets colder and these can be purchased from the Proserve shop off Dinan Way in Exmouth.
If the children forget to bring their homework home have a look on the homework page above and you will be able to download a copy here. The children are all bringing home individual spellings to work on their year group spelling list.
The children have made a good start back to school after half term. It is colder at playtimes so please ensure your child has a warm coat to wear. We have been finishing off our half termly assessments with the children to track progress. We will be able to discuss these with you at parent's evenings next week. Please book in for a slot if you haven't done so already. The children had a fabulous day at Bicton with Kate Ponting learning all about apple pressing. We hope you enjoyed the juice!
Next week the children will be all starting a new numeracy sequence on geometric reasoning. Specific year group objectives can be found on the curriculum page of the website. In literacy we will be using the book ' I don't want to be a frog' to look at punctuation and using different end punctuation in our own writing.
